Re-design of the Omron 5 Series
The Omron Hearth: Welcome

OBJECTIVE

The Omron Hearth is a family-centered product, designed to encourage healthy habits within a household. Based off of Omron’s Generation Zero initiative.

Challenge

Medical devices tend to create a sense of illness within a home.

To counteract this we were challenged to redesign the Omron 5 series to become more friendly, interactive, and enjoyable to use.

Creating this piece to become common within a genetically predisposed family to normalize the younger generation and reminding the older generation to take their blood pressure.

A drastic change can occur with health at any moment.

RESEARCH

Those genetically predisposed to high blood pressure, even when healthy, will have a higher blood pressure than someone who is not genetically predisposed.

Opportunities

Genetically Predisposed children could have high blood pressure by the time they’re in their 20’s, but without becoming normalized to the process of taking their blood pressure then there would be no way for them to know.

It is common for the elderly to have night lights within their homes due to getting up throughout the night; this became a key feature within the Omron Hearth due to this very reason.

Incorporating a day to day wearable could track the drastic change in  the user's personal health
